The Golden Blackout

Description

WARNING: Long history or something to do with the news!

This is a political cartoon based on the incident that happened here in the valley, even in my home!

News Flash (Monday, August 19th, 2013): “A thunderstorm from the great heatwave drove by and a lightning struck the Southern California Edison Rector Substation in Visalia, CA (my hometown), causing a fire on it. The station was forced to turn off power to douse the fire with dry ice (because of the transformer works on or has oil maternal) while the whole valley was under a blackout or power surge. This includes cities like Tulare, Visalia, Hanford, Lindsey, Woodlake, Porterville, and Tipton. People have to use candle and flashlights while the buildings (including fast food restaurants) are forced to be closed. People who have cars charged their phones since the electricity was out. And sadly for the air conditioners, everyone is forced to remain inside, keeping the cold air escaping for the dreadfully warm, muggy temperature outside. Because the electricity also controls the the wells to water, people must not used too much water or never. It went for 4 to 5 hours until around 11:00 PM, the power went back….”

That’s really happened here at my house! I did NOT like it! It was too hot to sleep and we, too, have to use flashlights (few of them) and candles (we got lots of them)! When this happened, I decided to do a political cartoon on it! Because of no light, I have to do it with a candlelight until bedtime! And when that day was over, I proceed in finishing the picture! Me, my brother and my father drove to that Substation (believe it or not) that is not very far from where we lived. My dad even took a photo of us near the gate! Anyway, after that, I managed to get it done today!

Here you have the house that refers to our home and you have the generator (the Southern California Edison Rector Substation) being struck by the thundercloud. You have Chappy Cat (Tulare), Mario Mouse (Visalia), Samantha Squirrel (Hanford), Salina (decided to put both Tipton and Porterville), and specially appearances of Marvin Mouse (Lindsey) and Mike Mouse (Woodlake). You see those guys, sweating by the dreaded heat that the cold air is gone! That candle on Mario’s head has something to do with people using candles or flashlights for some support! And that cork on the chimney is some way how to keep the air from the AC from going out! And yet what Chappy said was exactly on what I said yesterday and today…

It may not be as pleasant as you think, but then again, it was quite of an adventure! To be honest, I will never forget this!

Just be glad you had heat! Last year, there was a blizzard, which caused the power to go out for three or four days! It was too cold to shower, but luckily I knew someone who had a generator. I drove around for the most part, but nobody was allowed to use the highway, and a tree was down on the back way to Plymouth (I live in Carver). It was awful, and I know how you feel!
