CHAPTER II
-----------------------------
Afraid Of Your Own Shadow?

8:25 PM was already on schedule and the lights were out. Sounds of snores were being heard. Inside the bedroom, there were three beds. The three beds were in one row as there were those two sleeping there! Cornelius’ bed was the left one with some green bedsheets with white corners of it. The middle bed has some blue and turquoise mixture on the bed sheets where Marian Ann sleeps on. As for the bed on the right, it has a red bed sheet. That was once a bed where the Sausage used to sleep on.

Marian Ann was sleeping like a young un; snoozing as if there is nothing that will ever disturb her peace. But Poor Cornelius was getting any wink of sleep. He tries hard to stop thinking about the loss of the Sausage. He seems to toss and turn with those open eyes. Glancing around through that lightless space, he couldn’t even stop looking over Marian Ann’s body where that empty bed was left untouched. Guilt seems to have scarred the crow’s heart from the sight of any emptiness due to his dead friend’s disappearance…

He then turns onto the back laying position until he let his eyes gradually shut…

Whoooooooooooooooooooosh…..

The sound of the wind outside alerts the bird. His eyes opened as he gently got up. He looks around the room again, wondering about the sound. He looks over the empty bed again and spots those curtains flutter. That is where the window is! Those emerald colored curtain flutter as if the window was open. He felt a slight chill, which was kind of odd to him…

The window can’t be open, he thought to himself…

He got out of bed and softly walks near the curtains. He gently opens the curtains and notices that the window pane really was open. The soft breeze blows across the crow’s face. He sticks out of the window and looks around. There was nothing but trees that mostly dominant the whole domain. Dark yet shaded colors were all around. He felt like there is something quite queer about this. Without another second, he got his head back inside and shuts the window. He locks it up to hinder this to happen again, if possible.

By the time he turns back, his heart raced from what he saw. On the bed where the Sausage once rested on made Cornelius stood still. There was some shadow on the bed that is perfectly a lot like the Sausage’s. The light from the window features more of the shadow. That shadow seems to be lying on the bed like the way the Sausage would sleep like. It never moved the bed yet that shadow squirms a bit on the empty bed. Cornelius was trying hard not make any noise, not even gasp! His beak begins to shiver in horror. Just then, that shadow begins to fade away…

“Oh, my God...” He whispered to him…

He felt like if he gets anywhere near that bed, something unholy can happen. So he walks back to the window and hides behind the curtains. As he was, he lies on the wall and slumps down gently. Wrapping his arms around his needs like a child, he feels like nothing will ever happen if he just hides there. That is then his eyes begin to droop…
